Today I am going to share with you a few vignettes….I love that word!
She's a Heartbreaker...
I forgot to tell you guys the CUTEST story from my Saturday with my Mom. I told you I am going to court with Mom tomorrow for her divorce. She has been separated since last July, was married to him for 10 years, single for 4 years before that, and then she was married to my dad for 18 years. So she is really just enjoying “her” time.
We got to the theatre early and were waiting in the car. A car pulled up next to us with an older gentleman driving. My mom was in the passenger seat, so they were near each other. Anyway, he started chatting us up, just pretty casual – have we ever been here, stuff like that, but he was directing his comments towards Mom. So we went and got our tickets from the box office and went back to the car. I told Mom that I thought that man was flirting with you and she was all, no he wasn’t, so I just shrugged my shoulders. A few minutes later, he came back over and began asking Mom questions, if she was married, how long she has been divorced, I think he kind of got the hint that she wasn’t interested because that only lasted a short while. So of course I look over at Mom and tell her “I told you so”. She is so cute, she said, “Nicole, I don’t even know how to flirt”. I just told her to be yourself. And you certainly don’t have to marry every guy you got out with, hell you don’t ever have to get married again if you don’t want to! But I told her it might be nice eventually to meet a man to spend time with and go do things with. So perhaps in the future I will have more tales to tell in “As JoAnn’s Dating World Turns”.
I happen to think my Mom is quite the little hottie! The men should be lining up! This photo was taken last year at her birthday:
Parking Wars
So..I’m not the best driver. I know this. I accept this. I even know where it all began….
Many, many (ok, not *that* many) years ago, my friend Melissa and I decided to take driver’s Ed together. I don’t remember the name of the place only that we were the very last class they were teaching before the school closed down - FOREVER. Throughout the class, I really do not remember learning much about driving. I do remember Melissa and I working on homework throughout – specifically, and I have no idea why this sticks in my head, we had to draw like a life-size frog and illustrate it on butcher paper for Biology. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, very little instruction. Our “driving” time consisted of simulations or riding in the car while others were driving. I suppose I can understand the instructor’s reluctance as Melissa did wreck the driver’s Ed car - but still where was the education part. That was basically what our class was. The instructors in fact, helped us on the final test. Looking back, I’m not quite sure how I based the test at the DMV. Anyway, we had our permits….
Most parents teach their children to drive. Or so I have heard. Before my parents’ divorced I remember my Dad being gone a lot, so he was not there to teach me. So that left my mother. My dear, sweet mom. I remember asking her all the time to take me driving. Her response was always “You’re not on my insurance, I can’t let you drive”. BIG FAT LIE. Anyway, I believed her. Looking back, I’m not sure what her motivation was. Probably fear. But still!!!! So, at 16, I got my license. And was an official driver on the road. I never got many tickets or got into a major wreck, but my driving is sub-par at best. My first car was a sweet ass ’91 Cavalier, lovingly named “The Curb Checkin’ Cavi”.
I think my driving “challenges” might go back to the Adult ADD, I get bored and lose focus, etc. Jerod is not a fan of my driving, just the other day, I ran over a small bump, ok curb, but it was no larger than a speed bump. No, I didn’t see it. If I did, I obviously would not have hit it. I blame this partially on the car, just like I blame my Mom for my sucky driving skills :). I have a convertible sportscar, meaning I have wicked awful blindspots, not something I concerned myself with when car shopping. And the worst --- is parking. I am a horrible parker. I think the problem is that I think my car is a lot larger than it is. I hate parking. Just like in Clueless, I agree with Cher that every place should have valet. I usually have to get out of the car and walk around just to ensure I am within the lines. So, when I got out of my car this morning for work, and saw this doozy of a job, I was winning!!!
Not the Brightest Bulb in the Box
Have I told you guys how much I LOVE my Kindle? I freaking love my Kindle, by far one of my best purchases. I also purchased the nifty little leather case with the light attached. So you can imagine my dismay last night when I got into bed to read and my light was not working. I immediately hopped out of bed and got my camera out todocument the non-functionality of my light. When the Kindle is on, you extend the light and it turns on, that’s how it works. So I snapped a shot of the fully-extended arm with the light not working all ready to attach it to an email to Amazon this morning. The evidence is below:
They have this form thing you fill out, which I did. I got a response to call them, so I did. After explaining my dire situation to the guy, he asked if the Kindle was well-attached to the cover. In my head, I was like, of course it is – but I humored him. I took out my Kindle and he said – is there any gold showing where the prongs are? I look down – FML. Of course there is gold showing (you can see it in the photo above too, the bottom prong). AWESOME – AM GENIUS. So I felt like a huge rah-tard but the upside is my Kindle light isn’t broken.
Recommendation from DFW People
I want to start visiting Farmers Markets. I know there is a huge one in downtown Dallas. I live near DFW airport. I do not want to visit one *that* bad. Does anyone have a favorite in the mid-cities or Fort Worth? And I want a REAL Farmers Market, not some random fruit/veg store that cannot even tell me the origin of their products! I miss the Union Square Farmers Markets in NYC. I hope there is something similar around here. I have heard Grapevine is a good one, so I may check that one out.
Well, it’s Wednesday people. Have a great rest of the week!
Title Disclosure: This one might be a little tough. You would have to probably be a die-hard fan to know. It’s from Beverly Hills 90210 (the ORIGINAL and BEST one). I think that’s seriously like my favorite show. At least Top Three – sad, I know. I really want to buy the whole series on DVD, but cannot quite justify the purchase. Not to worry, I’m sure I will soon. Anyway, I cannot recall which season this is from, but let me set up the scene for you...
Scandalous Kelly and Dylan totally sleep together while Brenda is in Paris for the summer. Drama drama drama, at some point, Kelly starts dating Brandon. But still has feelings for Dylan. And Brandon. So instead of choosing one or the other when given the ultimatum to do so, she says, “I choose me”. Modern-day women’s lib right there. Now for my commentary…
I was always a Dylan and Brenda 4 EVA person. Until Brenda was gone forever, never to return. And Kelly dated the most awful guys. Brandon – goody two shoes – blech – BORING. Drug dude – what was his name…hmmm…thinking…yes, I recall, Colin – that dude was a champ. And finally, the biggest douchebag ever – Matt. So at that point, I was begging for Kelly and Dylan to get back together.

Ps…I still find myself swooning over Dylan McKay every time I catch an episode.

Um, just for the record, as long as a driver has a permit and is following the law (having a licensed driver at least 18 years old in the passgenger seat) then insurance automatically covers the driver...
ReplyDeleteAnd don't feel bad, my brother had to teach me how to drive, my dad tried teaching me how to drive a stick but it always led to a big fight, him laughing, and me in tears.
Yes, 15 year old did not know the letter of the law regarding driving. I still give my Mom grief over that!
ReplyDeleteI HATED Kelly. I was all about Brenda being with Dylan. It bothered me that Kelly was this total snob and then all the sudde, she was a saint who worked with AIDS patients. I was PISSED at the end of the series when Kelly and Dylan ended up together. Yes, I am very passionate about 90210 as well and have also looked into purchasing the entire series but like you, I cannot spend that kind of money on something I "may" watch once.
